Bernard Walter Greaves was born on 11th May 1893 in Bradford, Yorkshire, England to Myra and Edward Greaves. According to the 1891 census Edward was a civil engineer and they had four children already, Frederick, Helen Myra, Constance M and Gertrude. The family emigrated to Canada. Edward and Myra lived at 529 Craig St, Winnipeg. The connection with Folkestone is unclear but could be through the marriage of Catherine Sarah Hathorn to Richard Herbert Greaves.
