Charles Rolfe
Charles Rolfe
Charles Rolfe was a private in 1st/4th battalion “The Buffs”, The East Kent Regiment according to the Roll of Honour and Certificate of Glory filled in by his Mother, Mrs Rolfe of Darlington Street, Folkestone. I have not been able to find any other military information about him. This could mean that he died at home (In Britain) and is therefore not entitled to any medals and is buried in a private grave.
Charles was born (December) 1893 in the E.Preston district of Sussex to Mary and William Rolf, a bricklayer. William died in (December) 1899 in E Preston and most of the family have moved to Folkestone by 1901. Charles was educated at Christchurch School alongside his brother Alfred. The 1911 census had Mary, Alfred and Charles living at 16 Allendale St. Folkestone. Alfred and Charles are listed as being errand boys. An elder brother Lionel was also killed on 30th June 1916.
