Phyllis Deck went to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Dover as a probationer nurse in 1914 and was made up to a Staff Nurse 1917. In January 1918, she moved as a Nursing Sister to the Manor House Hospital, Folkestone. She died at this hospital on 6th October 1918 of bronchitis and pleurisy following influenza. She was 24 years old. The funeral service was held at St. John’s Church followed by a burial in Cheriton Road Cemetery, Folkestone.
Phyllis was born (December) 1894 in the Wolverhampton District to Isabel and the Rev Henry Legh Richmond Deck. She was the fourth of six daughters to the couple. Rev Deck came to Folkestone to take up the position of vicar at Christchurch and held this position until his death in 1910. The family who had lived at the Vicarage, 31 Cheriton Gardens moved to 15 Wiltie Gardens, Folkestone after his death.
