Thomas joined the army 12th September 1917, having been though R.M.C. Sandhurst, and became a 2nd Lieutenant in the 3rd battalion attached to the 1st Battalion Queen’s Own (Royal West Kent Regiment). He served in France and died of wounds on 7th November 1917. He is buried in Hooge Crater Cemetery, Belgium. He is also commemorated on Folkestone War Memorial.
Thomas Basil Maryon Streatfeild was born (March) 1898 in the Elham District to Florence Ethel (nee Maryon Wilson) and Thomas Streatfeild (physician). Thomas had one sister, Cynthia. The family lived at 113 Sandgate Road Folkestone (1901 and 1911 census). They live at 129 Sandgate Road and then by the end of the war the parents are living at 2Manor Road (next door to Mr and Mrs Court. Thomas was educated at Horris Hill, Newbury and Sherborne School. The surname Streatfeild has sometimes been spelt Streatfield on some records.
